CSULB - My College Experience

I’ve been inspired “Not One, But Two……”

Not One, But Two…….

A few days ago I read a most inspiring post from my fellow blogger Kathy Plashley, I hope you’ll take the time to read her post at the above link. Her post reminded me of how when you follow God’s path he truly does work in such amazing ways.

As some of you know, it has been a dream of mine to one day graduate from college. My path to this dream hasn’t been easy and it’s taken longer than I imagined, yet I feel so proud of how far I’ve come and how close I am. I found out a week ago that I just need 7 more classes to get my Sociology degree and words can’t explain how excited I felt to hear that. Well, when I read Kathy’s post about her courage to apply for a scholarship I thought to myself, I should do this too, and look into what’s available out there. I’ve never qualified for financial aid and throughout the years I have paid for each and every class on my own, and now that I’ve gone from working full time to part time and having a baby I’ve been thinking more and more of how to continue to make my dream happen financially. And then wouldn’t you know it, the next day I get an email in my inbox from CSULB, an opportunity for Junior/Senior Sociology majors to apply for the Dick Soderland “Against All Odds” Scholarship. No joke. My jaw just about dropped. I immediately thought, oh my gosh…I can do this…I should do this…wait this is scary…what if I don’t get…Stop. As long as I follow God’s path, he will work in amazing ways.

I’ve never applied for a scholarship before and of course my fear of rejection made a quick appearance, but then I thought, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I was telling my husband about this opportunity this evening and he told me to go for it and no matter what happens it’ll give me an opportunity to practice my writing and I could blog about my experience. I love my husband!

The only thing is, if I do get it, I’ll need to attend Fall 2012 as a full time student. This is another challenge for me. I’ve been on a two semester education leave due to my pregnancy and I had planned on starting Fall 2012 as a part time student. Well, I’m not going to over think things and just let God guide me.

  1. Don’t worry about if you have to go to school in the fall, God will help you just as He is helping you now! I’m excited to share our journeys together and watch God work in both of our lives! Get excited and like your husband said, “Go for it!”

    1. You know I immediately thought the same thing…that if God intends for me to start full time in the Fall, as long as I follow his path, I know things will go as intended and well. I’m so excited! I’m rooting for you too. I’m so thankful for the people that have encouraged me along the way =)
